Summer Of Kindness

I am spending my first summer home with the kids without a sitter. Yes, we have a couple of camps scheduled. And, yes a vacation or two in there as well. But, I have never been home as much as I plan to be this summer.

Being the OCD planner that I am, of course, I’ve started to build spreadsheets and plan out as much as possible. Boring, right? I realized that I need to let go of this a little bit when I had my brainstorm. I don’t know if I will ever be able to do this with my kids again. Who knows what the next year will bring? Our life always seems to be in such a state of flux and movement that I’ve learned to appreciate the moments in front of me right now.

So, I decided that this summer will be the Summer of Kindness. And, I wanted to invite as many other parents out there along for the ride to join us in doing acts of kindness throughout the entire of summer. When I announced this proudly to my 5 and 7 year olds, they promptly rolled their eyes at me saying “mooom, not kindness again?!?”

I quickly followed up with, “wait, wait…this will be simple acts of kindness every week (not a big huge project), it will require only the resources around the house or less than $30 to do, we can do it at home, and on your own time - it won’t take away from your play time! Oh…and it will be fun!”

I hope you will all join me on this Summer of Kindness. Subscribe to my blog to get weekly emails detailing not only our experience with doing the activities but also a weekly freebie outlining EVERYTHING you need to know:

  • Nonprofit partners I am working with, if applicable

  • Detailed description of activity, materials, and where to buy said materials

  • Book recommendations and learning materials to share with your children

  • Do's and Don'ts of how to talk about some of these activities

  • Weekly Facebook Lives to talk through and share our experience

Want to see what I’ve been thinking? Here’s my proposed schedule of kindness acts. Now, we do not get 12 weeks of summer in New England AND I’m aware that in many parts of the country summer vacation is already underway. BUT, I wanted to make sure that I didn’t miss anyone! (Note: I am going to try to follow this as closely as possible, but they may be subject to change!).
